Dear
As your constituent, I am writing to ask for your support for a Coal Miners Postage Stamp. The coal miners of this country -- men, women and children -- were the building blocks of the Industrial Revolution. Over the years, many have died in mine accidents, in addition to what is known as Black Lung, or Miners' Asthma. To this day, they are still hardworking and proud individuals.
Additionally, coal still generates at least 53% of the electricity used throughout the United States and is the cheapest energy alternative. With Clean Coal technology in place, coal has less of an environmental impact than some other forms of fuel.
The effort to get the Postal Service to issue a stamp honoring these distinguished workers began as early as 1986, but the stamp has still not been approved and issued.
If you look at the following web site, you can see the support the COALition for a Coal Miners Commemorative Postage Stamp has gained: http://www.coalminerstamp.com/ If you would like to be listed as a supporter on the web site send an email to: info@coalminerstamp.com
Please write a letter to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) asking them to approve and issue this stamp no later than 2004. Their address is:

Thank you for your help.
Respectfully,
