Here is the press release related to this resolution:
A legacy remembered
HARRISBURG, Nov. 21 - Pennsylvania coal miners helped to heat the nation's homes and power its industries.
State Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, would like the entire nation to remember coal miners and introduced a resolution (H.R. 639) asking the United States Postal Service to issue a postal stamp in their honor.
"So much of Pennsylvania was built on a legacy of coal mining," McCall said. "Many of our towns and much of our industry relied on the glittering black stuff from the earth to create an economy and fuel its furnaces. As technology emerged and new fuel sources were tapped, our reliance on coal and the hardworking coal miners began to diminish.
"Those early coal miners left a legacy for Pennsylvania in its many company towns and an ethic of hard work. They deserve to be honored and remembered," McCall added.
According to McCall, coal miners performed a dangerous and difficult job as they toiled hundreds of feet below the ground. Memorials to miners who died in explosions serve as a reminder of the tragedy that befell many.
Mining remains an honorable profession today and coal miners work equally hard to supply the nation with coal.
McCall's resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the House, will be delivered to the U.S. Postal Service, the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from Pennsylvania.

The Publishers and Editors of the Scranton Times have expressed their support for the stamp. In the Editorial section and under Our Opinion is the headline Honor Miners With Stamp.
They wrote:
A grass roots movement has begun to convince the United States Postal Service to issue a stamp honoring coal miners.
It's hard to imagine a group more deserving of the honor. They not only fueled the industrial revolution for much of the world, but played a key role in America's social history by being in the forefront of the labor movement..
Although it has been decades since coal was a viable industry here, it remains in the region's psyche. The coal mining legacy is at the root of the area's strong work ethic and family-oriented culture.
The contributions of coal mining to America's wealth and power are a fitting subject for a stamp. The Postal Service should heed the call.
